On August 7, Akasa Air will celebrate its one-year anniversary in operation, and during this time, it has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first airline in Asia to include the Boeing 737-8-200 variant in its fleet.
In an announcement today, Akasa Air proudly declared the addition of its 20th aircraft to the fleet, a development that now qualifies the airline to embark on international operations.
As of August 7, the carrier will have completed one year of operations and has earned the distinction of being the first airline in Asia to acquire the Boeing 737-8-200 variant.
A recent release reveals that the addition of the Boeing 737-8-200 aircraft aligns with Akasa Air's ongoing commitment to managing operating costs effectively.
To meet Indian regulations for international operations, airlines are required to maintain a fleet of at least 20 aircraft. Akasa Air has now fulfilled this requirement with the inclusion of its 20th aircraft in the fleet.
After a span of four months, the airline has successfully incorporated a new aircraft into its fleet.
Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Akasa Air, expressed his pride in achieving a remarkable milestone, stating that progressing from zero to 20 aircraft within just 12 months not only sets a record for Akasa but also exemplifies the nation's vast potential.
Furthermore, Mr. Dube shared that the airline has consistently achieved the highest on-time performance for multiple consecutive months in 2023.
According to the release, the B737-8-200 aircraft was delivered to the airline at Boeing's facility in Seattle (USA) on July 28 and subsequently arrived in Bengaluru at 9:31 hours on Tuesday.
Before its launch, Akasa Air had made an order of 72 aircraft, consisting of 23 737-8s and 53 high-capacity 737-8-200 planes, in 2021.
In June of this year, the airline made an announcement regarding the acquisition of four additional Boeing 737 MAX planes.
Boeing's Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, stated that the 737-8-200 provides an ideal combination of airline economics and exceptional customer experience, making it a perfect match for Akasa.
At present, Akasa Air serves over 900 weekly flights covering 16 cities in its operational network.
