Indian farmers are dedicated to producing the finest quality of the 'King of Fruit' and are determined to surpass all barriers. It is noteworthy that they are striving to achieve excellence by focusing on cultivating the elusive Japanese Miyazaki mangoes, known for their exorbitant value. Their commitment to avoiding shortcuts reflects their aspiration to gain recognition not only in Europe, the largest importer of Indian mangoes, but also in every corner of the world.

India boasts a rich agricultural heritage, contributing a diverse range of delightful mango varieties to the world. Among these treasures, the Miyazaki mango stands out as one of the rarest and most coveted fruits, renowned for its unparalleled taste, alluring fragrance, and extraordinary sweetness. Let's explore how Indian farmers are mastering the art of cultivating these exquisite mangoes.

In the international market, the Miyazaki mango commands a staggering price of about Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per kg. Notably, two brothers named Mukesh and Ramkumar, both farmers, are cultivating the prized Miyazaki mango variety in their three-acre orchard located in Nalanda, Bihar. Their father's vision was to showcase a diverse array of mangoes and other fruits in the orchard, which now flourishes with several mango species, including Miyazaki, Black Stone, and seedless varieties. To protect their valuable orchard, they have employed guard dogs and installed CCTV cameras for surveillance, as reported by Local18.

As per the report, farmer Surendra Singh, the father of Mukesh and Ramkumar from Dhakaniya village in Chandi Block, discovered information about Miyazanki mangoes on social media. In 2021, he imported two saplings of Miyazanki from Japan.

Another farmer, Dayal Sarkar, from Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district, West Bengal, has focused on cultivating exotic mango varieties such as Palmer and banana mango. Sarkar aims to generate substantial income from his plantation. Interestingly, in the Dakshin Kasba area of Raiganj, he has successfully cultivated high-value mango varieties from America and Thailand, much to everyone's surprise.

Over the last three years, Sarkar has cultivated these foreign varieties, which command a significantly higher price in the market, resulting in five to six times greater profits compared to local varieties when he sells these mangoes.

According to a recent report by ANI, Rakshyakar Bhoi, a farmer from Kalahandi district in Odisha, has successfully cultivated the world's most expensive 'Miyazaki' mangoes in his orchard.

The Miyazaki Mango

The Miyazaki mango, of Japanese origin, is highly sought after for its unique flavor, appealing color, and medicinal properties. It is named after the renowned Japanese scientist, Mr. Yamashita Miyazaki, whose groundbreaking contributions played a significant role in its development and cultivation.

Cultivation Techniques

Growing Miyazaki mangoes requires exceptional skill, patience, and utmost attention to detail, a fact widely recognized. Indian farmers, who have inherited knowledge passed down through generations, blend traditional wisdom with modern agricultural practices to ensure the production of top-quality mangoes. The region's unique microclimate and soil composition play a vital role in enhancing the superior quality of these mangoes.

The cultivation journey commences with the meticulous selection of the finest mango saplings from healthy mother trees. These chosen saplings are nurtured with great care in nutrient-rich soil, promoting the development of robust root systems. Additionally, farmers utilize grafting techniques to preserve the genetic purity of the Miyazaki mango, ensuring that each fruit possesses its unique characteristics.
