On Tuesday, the High Commissioner of Canada to India was served with a summons by the Government of India, informing them of the expulsion of a senior Canadian diplomat presently stationed in the country. The diplomat in question has been formally directed to leave India within the next five days.

A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs underscores the increasing concerns of the Indian government regarding the involvement of Canadian diplomats in India's internal matters and their active engagement in activities detrimental to India's interests.

Canada expels India diplomat

According to reports from the Canadian media outlet CBC, Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly has confirmed that the expelled diplomat from Canada is Pavan Kumar Rai. He currently holds the position of Head of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), which is India's foreign intelligence agency, in Canada.

Earlier today, Canada took the significant step of expelling a high-ranking Indian diplomat, marking a pivotal development in an ongoing investigation. This investigation is focused on what Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has characterized as credible allegations of potential links between the Indian government and the assassination of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which occurred within the borders of Canada.

For those who may not be aware, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, aged 45, formerly served as the leader of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and was among India's most-wanted individuals, with a substantial reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. Tragically, he was fatally shot by two unidentified assailants outside a gurdwara in Surrey, a province located in British Columbia, Western Canada.
