It's expected that Olympus will not only improve Amazon's online retail platform but also enhance features in Alexa voice assistant devices like Echo and provide support to Amazon Web Services.

According to a report from The Information, Amazon is developing conversational AI software to rival OpenAI and Microsoft in catering to corporate clients. Their upcoming substantial language model, internally referred to as Olympus, is expected to not only improve their online retail platform but also enhance Alexa voice assistant features in devices like Echo, while offering support to Amazon Web Services.

Olympus, AWS's upcoming large language model, is expected to surpass Titan, their current offering, and may be announced as early as December. This move was prompted by Titan's underperformance compared to OpenAI's ChatGPT technology, leading to a delay in its launch last year. While the timeline for Olympus's completion and deployment remains uncertain, AWS currently provides a single Titan model for personalization and search in applications, with two more Titan models in development. AWS also offers other large language models from Anthropic and other providers.

The Information reports that Rohit Prasad, who serves as the Head Scientist for Artificial General Intelligence, is in charge of supervising the development of Olympus, citing a source with direct knowledge.

Alibaba Enters the Race

Alibaba, the prominent Chinese tech giant, introduced its latest artificial intelligence model on Tuesday, aiming to compete with American tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft. As a leader in cloud computing and e-commerce in China, Alibaba unveiled Tongyi Qianwen 2.0, its newest large language model (LLM). Large language models are extensively trained on vast datasets and form the basis for generative AI applications, similar to OpenAI's well-known ChatGPT. Alibaba touted Tongyi Qianwen 2.0 as a significant improvement over its predecessor, which was initially launched in April.
