Karnataka Budget: The Congress-led government in this southern state has chosen to increase beer duties for the second time in seven months. This tax adjustment aims to bring Karnataka's liquor prices in line with those in neighboring states.

The cost of liquor is poised to rise in Karnataka, as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced an increase in excise duty in the state's budget. This move aims to boost the sales of Indian-made liquor, a significant revenue source for the state.

This marks the second time in seven months that the Congress-led government in this southern state has chosen to raise beer duties. The adjustment in taxes is intended to align Karnataka's liquor prices with those in neighboring states, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah noting that beer prices would see an increment.

In the budget, the Chief Minister also outlined plans for the establishment of 50 cafe hotels run entirely by women, costing ?7.5 crore. These cafes will prioritize serving local food. Additionally, promises were made to amend the APMC Act to reverse "anti-farmer" amendments, establish a hi-tech commercial flower market in Bengaluru, and set up a Spice Park in Chikkamagalur district under a PPP model. Food parks are expected to be established in three districts.

Despite disruptions and sloganeering by Opposition members, the Chief Minister announced the creation of a 73-km long Bengaluru Business Corridor with an allocation of ?27,000 crore, formerly known as the Peripheral Ring Road.
