Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, chaired the second pre-Budget consultation with top experts from the financial and capital markets sector on June 20, 2024. The meeting, held in New Delhi, was a critical step in preparation for the Union Budget 2024-25, anticipated to be presented in the last week of July. This will be Sitharaman's seventh consecutive budget presentation, putting her on the verge of surpassing former finance minister Morarji Desai's record.

The consultation was attended by key figures including Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Finance Secretary, and Secretaries from the Department of Expenditure, Department of Economic Affairs, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), Department of Revenue, Department of Financial Services (DFS), and Corporate Affairs, along with the Chief Economic Adviser.

On June 19, 2024, Sitharaman had chaired the first pre-Budget consultation with leading economists. Economist Ashwani Mahajan, who attended the meeting, shared that prominent economists from across the nation participated and provided their insights and suggestions for the upcoming budget.

This series of consultations aims to ensure that the FY25 Budget aligns with the Modi 3.0 government's focus on 'Viksit Bharat', which translates to 'Developed India'. Sitharaman emphasized the government's dedication to improving citizens' quality of life and reaffirmed the commitment to maintaining policy consistency.

As she prepares to unveil the FY25 Budget, Sitharaman already holds the distinction of being the only woman finance minister to serve two consecutive terms. Her continued leadership in these pre-Budget discussions underlines the government's inclusive approach in shaping economic policies that reflect the nation's aspirations and growth objectives.
