India's Passport Ranking Drops in 2024 Henley Passport Index

The Henley Passport Index 2024 has unveiled its latest rankings, placing Singapore at the top as the world's most powerful passport. Singaporean passport holders can now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 195 destinations. Following Singapore, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Japan tie for the second spot, each offering visa-free access to 192 countries.

The index, which assesses global travel privileges based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), shows a decline in India's passport ranking. India has dropped to the 82nd position, down from 80th last year, despite an increase in the number of countries offering visa-free access to Indian passport holders, which now stands at 58 countries.

The Henley Passport Index has been tracking passport rankings for nearly two decades, reflecting the evolving dynamics of global travel freedom. Notably, the Maldives maintains a strong position at 58th, offering its citizens visa-free access to 96 destinations. Meanwhile, the United States has slipped to the eighth position, with visa-free access to 186 countries.

Other notable rankings include Pakistan at 100th place with visa-free access to 33 countries, and Afghanistan at the bottom, granting its passport holders visa-free entry to just 26 destinations.

These rankings highlight the disparities in global mobility and the diplomatic relationships between countries, underscoring the importance of passport strength in international travel.
