The stock hit an intraday high of Rs 72.80 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), with a market capitalization reaching Rs 5,491 crore. This capital raise was significant for the cash-strapped airline, which has been working on stabilizing its finances amidst challenges in the aviation industry.


Strong Investor Response and QIP Details SpiceJet's QIP, which opened on September 16 and closed on September 18, 2024, saw strong demand from both domestic and international institutional investors. Notable global entities such as Goldman Sachs (Singapore), Morgan Stanley Asia, BNP Paribas, and Nomura Singapore participated in the fundraise. The overwhelming response indicated investors’ confidence in the airline's growth potential and its strategy to capitalize on the growing demand in India's aviation sector.


The newly raised capital will be used for key operational improvements, including bringing grounded aircraft back into service, acquiring new planes, and investing in technology. The company is also set to receive an additional Rs 736 crore from a previous funding round, further boosting its financial health.


Stock Performance and Technicals SpiceJet shares have seen a 92% rise over the past year, although the stock has lost 6.46% since the start of 2024. Technically, the relative strength index (RSI) of 51.6 suggests that the stock is trading in neutral territory, neither overbought nor oversold. With a beta of 1.2, SpiceJet shares exhibit average volatility over a one-year period.


The successful QIP is expected to play a critical role in stabilizing SpiceJet's financial standing and positioning the airline for future growth in an increasingly competitive market.
