The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has made a strong appeal to the central government, calling for the implementation of a five-day work week in banks, measures to curb violent attacks on staff, and steps to address critical staff shortages. 


These demands were discussed during a working committee meeting in Mumbai on November 12.


Unresolved Issues Reach a Breaking Point:


Y Gopal Krishna, AIBOC Chhattisgarh state secretary, expressed frustration over unresolved issues, stating, “Many of these issues have remained unresolved for far too long, testing the patience and resilience of our members. Exhausting all avenues of restraint and constructive dialogue, we now find ourselves with no alternative but to assert our position forcefully and with unbreakable unity.”


Krishna emphasized the dedication of the Chhattisgarh unit, highlighting its commitment to achieving fair treatment and safe working conditions for banking professionals. 


He called for addressing operational challenges stemming from staff shortages and stressed that the high customer-to-employee ratio in public sector banks places undue stress on employees and hampers service quality.


Safety Concerns for Bank Employees:


Incidents of violence against bank staff, often involving politically connected individuals, have been on the rise. 


AIBOC has urged the government to implement robust safety measures to protect employees, particularly in public sector banks.


Pending Government Notification on Work Week:


A proposal for a five-day work week, agreed upon during the 12th Bipartite Settlement and 9th Joint Note on March 8, is yet to be formally notified by the government. 


AIBOC asserts that this delay exacerbates workplace stress and impacts employees' work-life balance.


In conclusion, AIBOC’s renewed push underscores the urgent need to address operational inefficiencies, staff safety, and employee well-being in India’s banking sector. 


With the confederation’s firm stance, the central government is urged to take swift action to alleviate these challenges and build a more equitable environment for banking professionals.
