Flight Cuts & Safety First: Air India Cancels Multiple Flights After Crash
In the wake of the tragic June 12 plane crash near Ahmedabad, Air India has cancelled eight flights (four international and four domestic) and plans to reduce 38 international flights weekly from June 21 to July 15. The move is part of a broader effort to improve operational efficiency and implement enhanced safety checks across its Boeing 787 and 777 fleets.
The airline has also announced a temporary suspension of three overseas routes: Delhi-Nairobi, Amritsar-London (Gatwick), and Goa (Mopa)-London (Gatwick), all until July 15. These cuts come amid additional flight duration increases due to Middle East airspace closures, contributing to operational strain.
Affected routes span North America (Delhi to Toronto, Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington), Europe (London, Birmingham, Paris, Milan, Copenhagen, Vienna, Amsterdam), Australia (Melbourne, Sydney), and Asia (Tokyo, Seoul).
CEO Campbell Wilson assured that these pre-emptive steps aim to maintain confidence in the airline’s safety standards. Passengers affected by the cancellations will be contacted for rescheduling, alternate flights, or full refunds as per their choice.
