Govt Approves Aadhaar-Based ID Verification for IBPS Exams to Curb Impersonation

The decision, announced through a notification issued by the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, enables IBPS to use Yes/No or e-KYC authentication methods for identity checks, in accordance with Rule 5 of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance Rules. The move is also supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the UIDAI.

Why This Matters

This initiative is expected to:

  • Prevent impersonation and fraudulent activities
  • Safeguard genuine candidates
  • Simplify identity verification
  • Enhance public trust in the recruitment process
  • Reduce administrative burden

IBPS, which conducts recruitment for major roles in public sector banks and financial institutions, now joins the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), which has already adopted Aadhaar biometric authentication for identity verification in central government exams.

According to the government, this step will strengthen governance and bolster the transparency and integrity of recruitment in the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector.
