Market Rebound: Sensex Gains 360 pts, Nifty Above 25,300 as Israel-Iran Ceasefire Holds

Indian stock markets saw a positive open on Wednesday, lifted by improving global sentiment following the continuation of the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. The NSE Nifty 50 climbed over 36 points to trade just above 25,300, while the BSE Sensex surged 360 points to reach 82,888 in early trade.

In contrast, Bank Nifty opened flat near 56,600, while broader indices underperformed—Nifty MidCap 100 rose just 0.14% and small-cap stocks also showed signs of weakness.

Geopolitical and Trade Outlook:

VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, noted that the market is currently in a "risk-on" phase. However, he cautioned that the July 9 deadline for the 90-day pause in reciprocal tariffs could be a market-moving event. “A potential India-US trade deal would be a major booster, but failure to reach such agreements could stall momentum,” he said.

Top Market Gainers:

Among the leading gainers were Bharat Electronics, Jio Financial Services, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and Bajaj Finance. Heavyweights like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank also supported the early market uptrend.

Stocks Under Pressure:

On the losing side, stocks like Dr Reddy’s Labs, Tech Mahindra, Kotak Mahindra Bank, SBI, and Infosys slipped in morning trade, reflecting a mixed undertone.

Geopolitical Context – Iran-Israel:

The ceasefire between Iran and Israel remains in effect, though tensions persist. According to U.S. President Donald Trump, both nations sought U.S. mediation. Despite the truce, Iran reportedly launched a missile, prompting a limited Israeli strike near Tehran. Trump addressed the issue live, urging restraint and calling on Israel to de-escalate further.
