GST Turns 8 with ?1.85 Lakh Crore Boost in June: A Reform That’s Reshaping India’s Economy

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime continued its impressive performance in June 2025, clocking collections of ?1.85 lakh crore—registering a 6.2% rise compared to the same month last year. Although lower than the all-time high of ?2.37 lakh crore in April and ?2.01 lakh crore in May, the figures remain robust and consistent with the positive trajectory in indirect tax collections.

The announcement coincides with the 8th anniversary of GST’s rollout on July 1, 2017, a reform hailed as one of the most significant economic policy changes in independent India.

According to official data, the total GST collections in FY25 reached a record ?22.08 lakh crore, nearly double the ?11.37 lakh crore collected in FY21. Monthly averages have also improved dramatically—from ?95,000 crore in 2020-21 to ?1.84 lakh crore in FY25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded GST as a "landmark reform" that has simplified tax compliance, boosted economic growth, and fostered cooperative federalism, making states equal partners in India's integrated market framework.
