Is the Silver Tsunami Here? Prices Soar 7% in a Month

Silver has quietly stolen the spotlight in the precious metals market, surging by over 7% this month to trade at $39.05, marking a 1.5% rise just on Monday. This rally outpaces gold, which has slipped 0.77% in the last 30 days, and comes as analysts declare a major technical breakout underway for silver.

The rally has pushed silver prices up by 27% over the past year, reaching levels not seen in over 13 years. If silver crosses the $40 mark, the next significant technical level to watch is $41.77, the high set in August 2011. With gold, platinum, and copper all seeing parabolic movements recently, many believe it is now silver’s turn to shine.

Recent geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties, including US-China trade talks, have fueled investment flows into silver-backed exchange-traded products (ETPs), which have hit a record US$40 billion, already surpassing 2024 totals. The high gold-to-silver ratio, which has fallen from over 100 in January to 85 now, further suggests that silver remains undervalued compared to gold, providing room for further upside.

Silver’s role in solar, electronics, and electrification trends continues to drive long-term structural demand, accounting for over half of global demand. In India, retail investment demand for silver remains robust, posting a 7% year-on-year gain in the first half of 2025, supported by strong price expectations. Currently, silver prices in India stand at Rs 1,13,070 per kg.

As gold hovers around $3,350 and copper and platinum witness historic rallies, many investors are rotating into silver within the precious metals space, betting on its breakout potential in the second half of 2025.
