L&T to Power India’s Largest Green Hydrogen Plant at IOCL Panipat

L&T Energy GreenTech (LTEG), a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, has announced it will develop India’s largest green hydrogen plant at Indian Oil Corporation’s Panipat refinery in Haryana. Set up on a build-own-operate (BOO) model, the plant will supply 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for the next 25 years, helping IOCL decarbonise its refining operations while supporting India’s commitment to net-zero emissions.

Operating 24x7 using renewable energy, the project will utilise high-pressure alkaline electrolysers manufactured by L&T Electrolysers Ltd at its advanced Hazira facility in Gujarat. This aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission by incorporating locally made electrolysers, contributing to India’s clean energy goals under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

L&T’s Derek Shah stated, “With cutting-edge technology and a skilled team, we are confident of delivering a high-performance, zero-emission plant that sets new industry benchmarks.”

By winning IOCL’s first green hydrogen tender on May 14, LTEG has positioned itself as a front-runner in India’s green hydrogen space, setting a new precedent for industrial-scale adoption across refineries and fertiliser plants. The project strengthens LTEG’s focus on sustainable energy solutions across development, manufacturing, and EPC, driving the vision of self-reliant clean-tech infrastructure for India.

Meanwhile, L&T’s share price has seen a dip of 2.58% over the past month, reflecting broader market conditions, but its green hydrogen initiatives signal a strong commitment to long-term sustainability and industry leadership.
