Stock Market LIVE – July 28, 2025
The Indian stock market kicked off the week on a negative note, continuing the downtrend from the previous sessions. The NSE Nifty 50 opened 75 points lower, breaking below the critical 24,800 level, while the BSE Sensex fell 250 points to open at 81,200.
Sectoral losses were broad-based, with Bank Nifty sliding 240 points to 56,286, hurt largely by a sharp fall in Kotak Mahindra Bank, which tanked 5.5% following weaker-than-expected performance on net interest margins (NIMs). The Nifty Midcap index also declined by 170 points, reflecting a widespread cautious mood among investors.
Expert View:
According to VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services:
“Negative triggers including delayed India–US trade talks, continued FII outflows, and muted Q1 earnings have dragged the market to a one-month low. Additionally, TCS's global workforce cut of 2% has added pressure on IT stocks.”
Shrikant Chouhan, Head of Equity Research at Kotak Securities, added:
“Technically, Nifty has broken the 50-day Simple Moving Average and is now forming a bearish pattern. As long as it remains below 25,000, the outlook stays negative with downside potential extending to 24,700–24,750.”
