Amazon’s Mega India Bet: $35 Billion Investment and 1 Million Jobs by 2030

In a major boost to India’s digital and economic ambitions, Amazon has announced that it will invest more than $35 billion across its businesses in the country by 2030. The announcement underscores Amazon’s long-term confidence in India's fast-growing digital ecosystem, AI-driven transformation, and expanding workforce strength.

The fresh investment comes in addition to the $40 billion Amazon has already invested over the past 15 years. The update was shared at the 6th Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi, where consulting firm Keystone Strategy released an economic impact report highlighting Amazon’s role as one of India’s largest foreign investors and job creators.

Amazon’s Impact in India So Far

According to the Keystone report, Amazon has:
  • Digitised 12 million+ small businesses
  • Enabled $20 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports
  • Supported 2.8 million direct, indirect, induced, and seasonal jobs
The company has built extensive physical and digital infrastructure, including fulfilment centers, transportation networks, data centers, digital payments systems, and advanced technology platforms. This ecosystem has empowered small businesses, boosted logistics, and created significant employment across multiple sectors.

1 Million New Jobs by 2030

Amazon aims to generate 1 million more jobs in India by 2030. These will span sectors such as technology, logistics, operations, packaging, manufacturing, transportation, and customer support.
As Amazon expands its fulfilment and delivery networks, job opportunities are expected to spread widely across urban and rural regions.

AI: The Core of Amazon’s Future Vision

A key highlight of Amazon’s long-term strategy is the democratization of Artificial Intelligence. The company aims to bring AI tools and digital solutions to 15 million small businesses across India.

AI-powered tools like:
  • Seller Assistant
  • Lens AI
  • Rufus conversational shopping
…are already helping sellers scale faster and improving customer experience with enhanced personalization and convenience.

Amazon also committed to empowering 4 million government school students with AI learning, hands-on experiences, career exploration and teacher training—aligned with India’s NEP 2020.

Boosting Exports to $80 Billion

Amazon aims to quadruple India’s e-commerce exports to $80 billion by 2030, up from the current $20 billion. This initiative will enable more Indian manufacturers, artisans, startups, and small business owners to reach global markets under the “Make in India, Sell Worldwide” vision.

Amit Agarwal’s Statement

Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President – Emerging Markets, said:
“We are humbled to be part of India’s digital transformation journey. Amazon’s growth aligns with the vision of an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat. We remain committed to democratizing AI, creating millions of jobs, and taking Made-in-India products global.”
