Markets Extend Slide: Sensex Slips 200 Points, Nifty Below 26,000 as Auto, Realty & Pharma Drag

Stock Market LIVE | December 15, 2025 :

Indian stock markets extended their ongoing sell-off on Monday as a subdued global market environment weighed on investor sentiment. With risk appetite dented, benchmark indices traded in the red for most of the session, led by sharp losses in auto, realty and pharmaceutical stocks.

Around 11:00 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 85,107.51, down 160.15 points (0.19%), while the NSE Nifty50 slipped 56.45 points (0.22%) to 25,990.50, falling below the crucial 26,000 mark.

Selling pressure was visible across key heavyweight stocks.

M&M, Trent, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, Power Grid, Sun Pharma, Kotak Bank, Infosys, TCS, Titan, Maruti Suzuki, and Bajaj Finance declined up to 1.4%, dragging the benchmarks lower.

Limited Gainers

Gains were restricted to a handful of stocks, with Asian Paints, BEL, HUL, and Ultratech Cement managing to stay in positive territory amid an otherwise weak market.

Broader Market Performance

The broader markets mirrored the cautious tone:

Nifty MidCap index fell 0.51%

Nifty SmallCap index declined 0.15%

This indicates continued pressure beyond frontline indices, though the fall was relatively contained in small-cap stocks.

Sectoral Performance

Sectoral indices largely traded lower, led by:

Nifty Auto: down 1.1%, the worst performer

Nifty Realty: slipped amid weak demand outlook

Nifty Pharma: declined on profit booking and broader market weakness

The overall market breadth reflected risk aversion, as investors remained cautious amid global uncertainty and lack of strong domestic triggers.
