SynopsisLG Electronics India is increasingly positioning the country as a major manufacturing and export hub as it looks to expand its presence in international markets. At its first Annual General Meeting after listing, the company told shareholders that India is becoming an increasingly important part of its global manufacturing strategy, with products made in the country already being exported to more than 50 countries.

LG Electronics Bets Big on India, Eyes Major Global Expansion From Its Indian Manufacturing Base

Sanjay Chitkara, co-chief sales and marketing officer at LG Electronics India, said the company is targeting exports of its Essential series to 22 countries by the end of calendar year 2026. LG has also invested around Rs 5,000 crore in its manufacturing facility at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. The facility is expected to begin operations by December and is set to play an important role in the company's future manufacturing and export plans.

LG plans to follow a two-pronged export strategy from India. Premium products manufactured in the country will be targeted at developed and advanced markets, while the company's Essential series will be expanded across emerging economies. Management believes this "Make in India for the world" strategy can become an increasingly important growth lever for LG Electronics India.

The company is also working to reduce its dependence on individual international markets by gradually expanding into new geographies. Management said it continues to closely monitor global developments and aims to respond quickly to changes in consumer demand, economic conditions and geopolitical developments.

At the AGM, LG Electronics India Chairman Daehyun Song said the company's focus would remain on innovation, operational excellence, sustainable growth and long-term value creation. He also described LG India's stock market listing as an important milestone for the business and said the company remains committed to maintaining high standards of corporate governance, transparency and accountability.

Managing Director Hong Ju Jeon said LG Electronics continues to maintain a leading position across several major consumer electronics categories in India. According to the company, its competitive advantage is built around three key areas — innovation, customer experience and strong relationships with channel partners.

LG also sees considerable room for growth in the Indian market because household penetration of several major appliances remains relatively low. The company estimates that refrigerator penetration in India is around 30 per cent, while washing machine penetration is approximately 20 per cent and room air conditioner penetration is only around 10 per cent.

These relatively low penetration levels provide LG with a significant opportunity to increase sales as more Indian households upgrade and purchase modern appliances. The company expects demand to receive additional support from changes in the Goods and Services Tax structure, particularly for air conditioners and larger television sets.

The company believes India's expanding middle class, rising consumer aspirations and increasing appliance adoption could create a strong long-term growth opportunity. As consumers increasingly look for energy-efficient, connected and technologically advanced products, LG is also investing in new technologies to differentiate its offerings.

Artificial intelligence is becoming an important part of this strategy. LG is using AI technology to optimise how its appliances operate, improve performance and help consumers reduce energy consumption. The company expects smart and connected appliances to play a larger role in the consumer electronics market as technology adoption increases.

The Sri City manufacturing facility is expected to further strengthen LG's production capabilities in India and could increase the country's importance within the company's global supply chain. The investment also comes as global companies increasingly look to diversify their manufacturing networks and build additional production capacity outside traditional manufacturing hubs.

For LG, India offers a combination of a large domestic consumer market and an increasingly competitive manufacturing ecosystem. By producing more products locally and exporting them to international markets, the company can potentially use India as both a growth market and a strategic production base.

With exports already reaching more than 50 countries, the planned expansion of the Essential series and the upcoming Sri City facility could significantly increase India's role in LG's international operations. The company is therefore looking beyond domestic sales and attempting to build India into a larger global manufacturing and export platform.

As LG Electronics India enters its next phase as a listed company, its focus on manufacturing expansion, exports, AI-powered products and rising domestic appliance penetration could become key drivers of its long-term growth. The company's strategy indicates that India is no longer being viewed only as an important consumer market, but increasingly as a crucial base for serving customers across the world.
