Synopsis : Indian equity markets witnessed selling pressure in Monday’s session as weakness in banking and IT stocks weighed on the benchmark indices. At around 11:00 AM, the Sensex was down 321.10 points, or 0.43%, at 74,408.17, while the Nifty 50 declined 84.85 points, or 0.37%, to 23,061.30.
The market opened on a cautious note after the benchmarks had posted strong gains in the previous week. The Sensex and Nifty had gained 3.11% and 2.78%, respectively, over the previous week, making Monday’s decline appear partly like a consolidation move.
Banking & IT Stocks Drag Market
Among Nifty 50 constituents, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and Infosys emerged as some of the biggest losers, putting pressure on the headline indices.
The Nifty Private Bank index recorded the sharpest decline among major sectoral indices, while the Nifty PSU Bank index bucked the trend and traded higher.
The broader market also remained under pressure, with the Nifty MidCap index falling 0.13% and the Nifty SmallCap index declining 0.19%.
Market sentiment is being closely influenced by the ongoing quarterly earnings season. Investors are assessing earnings growth, margins and management commentary for clues about the market's next direction. The Financial Express
Jindal Saw Shares in Focus

Market Outlook
With the Nifty hovering around the 23,050–23,100 zone, traders are likely to closely watch whether the index can sustain above the psychologically important 23,000 mark. Analysts have also identified the 23,400–23,500 region as an important upside zone, while support around 22,786 remains significant from a technical perspective. The Economic Times
The market's near-term direction could depend on a combination of quarterly earnings, global cues, crude oil prices, foreign flows and developments surrounding major upcoming IPO activity. Investors should therefore expect volatility to remain elevated during the earnings season.
