Bank of America

Bank of America (BofA) is a multinational investment bank and financial services company headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It is one of the largest banks in the world by total assets and serves millions of customers globally. Founded in 1904 as the Bank of Italy by Amadeo Giannini, it later merged with NationsBank in 1998 to form Bank of America.

History

Bank of America traces its origins to the Bank of Italy, founded in San Francisco by Amadeo Giannini in 1904. Giannini's vision was to provide banking services to immigrants, farmers, and other underserved communities. The bank played a crucial role in financing the rebuilding efforts after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

Over the years, the Bank of Italy expanded its operations and acquired several other financial institutions. In 1930, it changed its name to Bank of America. The bank continued to grow through mergers and acquisitions, becoming one of the largest banks in the United States.

In 1998, BankAmerica Corporation merged with NationsBank Corporation, creating the present-day Bank of America Corporation. The merger formed a financial powerhouse with a wide range of services, including consumer banking, investment banking, wealth management, and asset management.
