Infosys has relinquished a $1.5 billion artificial intelligence (AI) contract with a global firm that was inked in September. This development signifies a significant setback for Infosys in its AI endeavors and highlights potential challenges or issues that led to the cancellation of the deal.
On December 23, Infosys disclosed that the worldwide corporation, initially engaged in a $1.5 billion artificial intelligence solutions deal, has chosen to cancel the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the major IT services provider. Originally intended as a 15-year contract and sealed in September 2023, this development highlights the escalating uncertainty surrounding client demands and technology budgets within the IT services industry.
In a filing to the exchange, the company stated, "This follows Infosys' earlier disclosure dated September 14, 2023, titled 'Company Update,' regarding an MoU with a global firm, contingent upon the parties finalizing a master agreement. The global firm has now decided to annul the MoU, and both parties will not proceed with the Master Agreement.
Infosys further stated, 'The global corporation has chosen to terminate the Memorandum of Understanding, and both parties will not proceed with the Master Agreement.'
This decision comes shortly after Nilanjan Roy, the former CFO of the company, unexpectedly resigned.
On September 14, the second-largest IT services provider in India announced an understanding with an international entity 'to deliver improved digital experiences, along with modernization and business operations services, leveraging Infosys platforms and AI solutions.'
Infosys had collaborated with the mentioned global company to enhance digital experiences using Infosys' platform and AI technologies.
On Friday, Infosys' shares rose by 1.68 percent to Rs 1,562.00 per share on the BSE, while the benchmark Sensex increased by 0.34 percent to 71,106.96.
