Akasa Air is set to launch its inaugural international flight between Mumbai and Doha starting March 28th.
The Finance Ministry's recognition of Akasa Air as a 'designated Indian carrier' strengthens the airline's aspirations for international flights.
A notification from the ministry stated, "In accordance with the authority granted by sub-section (5) of section 5 of the Central Sales Tax Act, 1956, the Central Government designates SNV Aviation Private Limited (Akasa Air), with its registered office at 12th Floor, Urmi Estate, 95 Ganpatrao Kadam Marg, Lower Parel (West), Mumbai, Maharashtra- 400013, as a 'designated Indian carrier' for the purposes outlined in the aforementioned sub-section."
On March 28, Akasa Air is slated to commence its inaugural international flight connecting Mumbai and Doha, marking the budget carrier as the first Indian airline to venture into global routes within just 19 months of its inauguration. The airline inaugurated its maiden flight on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route on August 7, 2022.
In accordance with government regulations, airlines are required to possess a fleet of 20 aircraft to commence international operations. Presently, Akasa Air boasts a fleet of 23 B737 Max aircraft and serves 20 cities across India.
