Calm After the Storm: Sensex Surges 550 pts, Nifty Above 25,200 as Oil Prices Fall & Ceasefire Eases Tensions

Indian equity benchmarks surged in Thursday’s trade, buoyed by easing geopolitical concerns and softer crude oil prices. The BSE Sensex rallied 586 points or 0.73%, climbing to 82,641, while the NSE Nifty 50 jumped 0.68% to hit 25,214.20, reflecting renewed investor optimism.

This uptrend follows positive developments in the Middle East, where a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel temporarily de-escalated ongoing tensions. Brent crude oil prices responded accordingly, falling below $77 a barrel, offering relief to oil-importing nations like India.

Among the top Sensex gainers were Titan Company, Eternal (Zomato), Bharti Airtel, HCL Tech, RIL, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, and HDFC Bank, with most logging gains of up to 2%.

On the losing side, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, and Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) fell by up to 1.3%.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap 100 rose by 0.43%, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 surged 1.36%. India’s Volatility Index (India VIX) also dropped nearly 3%, signaling a more stable sentiment across investors.

Sectorally, Nifty IT led the charge with a 1% jump, followed by Nifty FMCG at 0.8%. This reflects optimism in defensives and tech stocks amidst improving global cues.

However, not all debutants shared the optimism. Newly listed Arisinfra Solution saw its share price plummet 10% post-listing, underperforming expectations.
