Reliance Infra and Coastal Mechanics Forge Defence MRO Alliance to Tap India’s Rs 20,000 Cr Opportunity

Reliance Defence Limited, a company promoted by Reliance Infrastructure, has announced a strategic partnership with US-based defence contractor Coastal Mechanics Inc (CMI) to target India’s ?20,000 crore defence maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) and upgrade market. This move aligns with the Indian military’s strategic shift from asset replacement to lifecycle extension and performance-based logistics.

The partnership will focus on providing end-to-end MRO, upgrade, and lifecycle support solutions for platforms such as Jaguar and MiG-29 fighter aircraft, Apache attack helicopters, and L-70 air defence guns. As part of the agreement, the companies will set up a joint venture at the Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN), Maharashtra, to serve both domestic and export markets in the air and land defence platforms segment.

Reliance Infrastructure recently posted a net profit of ?4,387.08 crore in Q4 FY25, a turnaround from a loss of ?220 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. However, its income from operations dipped by 12% year-on-year to ?4,108.01 crore. The company’s adjusted Ebitda for Q4 FY25 stood at ?8,876 crore, up sharply by 681% from the previous quarter, reflecting operational resilience despite lower revenue.

This strategic collaboration underscores Reliance Infra’s intent to strengthen its position in India’s defence sector while creating a long-duration, high-value opportunity in the MRO and upgrade space, aligning with India’s focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence.
